  • Rent Assistance Program (RAP)

    Funding has been made available through HUD's Recovery Housing Program and distributed by EOHLC.

  • The Rental Assistance Program (RAP) is a grant for eligible individuals who are seeking to move into a certified sober home but have limited or no income and for current residents of certified sober homes who need for financial assistance to maintain their housing. The RAP will include funding for up to 100-days or up to $3000 of assistance. Applicants will be required to demonstrate financial need.

    Funds will be paid directly to the sober home. The sober home operator is responsible for submitting an invoice to MASH at the appropriate time for the resident’s stay.

    To be eligible for the full 100 days or $3000 of funding, all residents approved for this grant are required to check in with MASH via an emailed survey at:

    • 25-30 days (1-month check-in)
    • 55- 60 days (2-month check-in)
    • 85-90 days (3-month/end of funding check-in)

    These check-ins ensure that the resident is still in need of rent assistance and is still living at the certified sober home. The resident is also responsible for answering a survey that will be emailed to them at:

    • 6 months from the start date of their funding

    The residents’ information will be kept confidential and secure.

    Once the resident is approved for rent assistance, a certified sober home operator who has signed a RAP agreement will then submit an acceptance letter on behalf of the resident, available on MASHsoberhousing.org.

    APPLICANTS: Before starting the application, please be sure to have proof of income ready to upload. Proof of income may include: your most recent pay stubs, MassHealth card and a written attestation stating your income or lack of income signed and dated, SSI, SSDI, etc.

  • I. Directions:

  • 1. Online Application: Please complete the following application in its entirety. This rent assistance program funds up to $3000 or 100-days of rent at a certified sober home that is participating in this program.

    2. Phone Interview: After your application is received, it may take approximately 4-6 weeks to process. A phone interview is required. During the interview, you may be asked to provide additional documentation.

    3. Application Review & Determination: After your phone interview your application and supporting documents will be forwarded to the review comittee. This could take approximately 1-2 weeks. If you are approved you will receive a letter via email. The letter will be sent to the email that you provided on your application.

    4. Check-Ins: You are required to check in with MASH via survey links that will be emailed to you as long as you are still utilizing MASH rent assistance. The check ins will provide MASH with any changes in applicant information and housing status. Check-in responses will not change your eligibility. Not responding to the survey may result in termination of the grant.

     

    Please note - the application will not be processed until the online application and phone interview are completed. Once the application is reviewed the applicant will be notified of acceptance or denial. To ensure that your application is processed, please complete all of the following questions.

  • Please note that if eligible, you must complete a phone interview before approval is determined. Someone from MASH will reach out to the number(s) that you provide below. The wait period after application submission varies and can take a few weeks.

  • * The definition of “severely disabled” is as follows: Persons are classified as having a severe disability if they: (a) used a wheel-chair or had used another special aid for six months or longer; (b) are unable to perform one or more “functional activities” or need assistance with an “ADL (activities of daily living) or IADL (Instrumental Activities of Daily Living);” (c) are prevented from working at a job or doing housework; or (d) have a selected condition including autism, cerebral palsy, Alzheimer’s disease, dementia, or intellectual disability.

    Also, persons who are under 65 years of age and who are covered by Medicare or who receive SSI are considered to have a severe disability.
